Google is now responsible for lies users

Starting today, Google can be considered responsible for the false information coming from others. At least in Australia.

So decided the Supreme Court of Victoria — it has fined Google$ 200,000 for the fact that the search engine is not removed in time from the issuance of slanderous data about the relationship music promoter (Milorad Trkulja) organized crime. The court ruled that Google in this case — the publisher of this information, for displays this content with a link to a website containing defamation.

The official position of the company:

the Google search Results is a reflection of information that is online. Sites that Google gives when you search is controlled by the owners of those sites and not by the search engine.

I kind of feel sorry for the guys that they had to chew the judge such obvious things.

As for the ill-fated promoter. In 2009, he demanded that the search engine removed from the issue, all the rumors about him, including pictures. Google politely sent him to the site owners.

The court also ruled that Google can be considered guilty of displaying such information, but only up to the moment when someone officially asks the company to remove this information from the output.

During the proceedings, the company's lawyers repeatedly pointed out that data collection is carried out automatically, there's no evil guy, who sits and manually seek out gossip to the SERPs that it's a robot, who dispassionately collects links — still.

No matter how stupid the decision did not seem to us — the precedent was created.

In fact, Google has admitted responsible for all the trolls on the Internet.
I can only imagine what that means for the search engine.
