Team Black Duck updated runs search engine open source

Now there are several projects that can be called libraries, open source software and source code. Among other such projects — GitHub and Sourceforge. Projects all is good, except that to find the right and the sources sometimes is difficult. To simplify the life of programmers and their sympathizers, Google launched in 2006, Google Code Search. By design, the service allowed to find all necessary information on any services like GitHub and Sourceforge. Google Code Search has found its niche and its opportunities are used by a lot of experts. But recently, the Corporation announced the termination of support for this service.

Now, a team of Black Duck tries to occupy a niche previously owned by Google Code Search, with his project Ohloh. This project will replace the pre-existing service Koders, created by the same guys from Black Duck. The company earns on its products and services for organizations using open source. In particular, one of the services "monetization" is the resource that monitors the correct use of different kinds of licenses.

In that time, Google shut down its own search engine code because of its unprofitability, the Black Duck is going to make its service profitable. The final version of monetization is still under discussion, but the service itself Ohloh will work in three directions:

1. Training — you can see solutions similar to your problem with the code other users;

2. Searching for the right sources that you can use in your own project;

3. Code comparison;

In addition, Ohloh will be possible to publish their own projects, the system will provide users with statistics, including the frequency of project updates.

In General. pretty interesting service, which, however, is hardly unique. Similar projects are OpenLogic, Palamida and Protecode. It is worth noting that the service Ohloh was not created by the Black Duck team from scratch, the project was bought from Geeknet, back in 2010. Now purchased online significantly updated, revised, and ready to go.
